President Ford held a press conference in which he shared a message that we all should heed today:
“Humor can help you to disagree without being disagreeable. The key in democracy is not necessarily that we agree, but that we participate. Despite all the heavy problems — domestic and international — there is humor. Humor transcends partisanship. The American people are basically interested in humor and laughter… and that’s an excellent characteristic of our people. It would be a good idea for people in business and other professions — especially ones that have an exaggerated opinion of their power and influence — to be able to laugh at themselves.”
